Responsible Gaming

This page sets out how to keep gambling in check, along with what this site itself can and cannot do about it. The advice below applies whether you are new to gambling or have been doing it for years.

Decide the amount before you start

Set a figure in your head before you place a bet, not while you're already playing. Once you've decided it, treat that money as already spent, the same way you'd treat the cost of a cinema ticket or a meal out. This turns gambling into a fixed-cost activity rather than an open-ended one, and it removes the need to make a judgement call in the middle of a session, which is the worst time to make one.

Never chase a loss

A loss is not a debt that gambling itself can repay. Trying to win back what's gone usually means raising the stake or playing longer than planned, which increases the size of the next loss rather than fixing the last one. Walking away after a loss costs you nothing beyond what's already spent; continuing to chase it risks turning a small loss into a large one.

Keep gambling separate from borrowed money

Only gamble with money that's genuinely free to lose. Money that's borrowed, or earmarked for rent, bills or anything else, carries a cost beyond the stake itself, so a loss there does more damage than the number on the screen suggests. Keeping the two separate means a bad session stays a bad session, and not the start of a bigger problem.

Take breaks and involve someone else early

Step away regularly, even during a session that's going well. A short break gives you a chance to notice how long you've been playing and whether you still want to continue. If gambling stops feeling like entertainment and starts feeling like something you need to do, tell someone else about it early, before it becomes harder to talk about. Speaking to a partner, friend or family member at that point is far easier than waiting.

Know what this site can verify and what it cannot

Every page on this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: BeGambleAware, Gambling Therapy and GamCare. Those links are the only outbound links on the site that are not commercial: they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when a reader follows them. An eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout the site, including on the front page.

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods or self-exclusion belong to an operator account. This site has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch one of those controls on, check its status or enforce it. If you want any of them, they exist only inside the account you hold at the destination you're redirected to.

Nobody's age is verified on this site, and no gambling takes place on it. Any check of that kind happens at the destination once you leave. Everything a reader can actually do with money happens after leaving this site: each operator link redirects to a third party, and from that moment the destination's own rules, checks and account controls apply, not anything published here.

No advertising or behavioural profiling network runs on these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader based on gambling behaviour. If gambling has stopped being entertainment for you, the organisations linked on this page are an independent source of help, separate from any operator you may reach through this site.
